Information

Hello, I'm Chris Dore. For many years I have been visiting the trout streams of the Southland region, first as a young teenager under the guidance of knowledgeable locals and then as an angler obsessed with stalking and sight fishing our Southern brown trout. I now visit these enchanting rivers, lakes and streams on a regular basis, observing hatches, prospecting new water and just plain 'putting in the miles' to assist in providing you with the quality service you deserve. Small streams are a passion of mine, and there is little I enjoy more than putting clients onto big fish in a small stream environment.

To observe a wily, brown trout feeding at close quarters is enchanting indeed. To watch him move to your fly is priceless!

I am also a member of the American Federation of Fly Fishers (FFF) Professional Guides Association, a FFF Certified Casting Instructor and a member of the CD Rods Pro Guide Network.

I am covered by a variety of insurance policies to ensure your experience is a safe one and am the holder of a current first aid certificate, should the unfortunate occur. I am commissioned by the Department of Conservation which permits me to operate on state administered lands and comply with OSH requirements for enhanced access across private properties. When not upon the river I write of my experiences as a contributing columnist for 'The NZ Troutfisher', New Zealand’s top selling trout fishing publication. I also contribute regular regional reports for Reel Life, Fish and Game, New Zealand's online magazine.

Over the years I have written for several fishing oriented magazines, among them NZ Fisherman, Southern Fishing and Boating, NZ Fishing News and Fishing Action magazine. I feel that through my writing I have become more perceptive of our southern brown trout and his environment and my research has helped me to better understand many of the mysteries pertaining to our local fishery.

Why should you employ me as your guide? I believe that with my comprehensive understanding of our fishery, my passion and enjoyment of the sport, and my innovative adaptability I remain ahead of the competition. I am happy to work hard and put in that extra mile to ensure that your day is a memorable one, for all the right reasons.

So contact me when you are ready to experience some of New Zealand’s finest sight – fishing opportunities, or expand your knowledge of winning tactics, techniques and approach to New Zealand trout fishing waters.
